Before you start the process of improving your online presence, you should ask yourself what are your online objectives; You can then decide what steps you need to take to achieve your ultimate goal.
Do I expect to increase sales, generate leads, increase my brand awareness, or do I want a combination of all three?
Content is King!
After deciding your objectives you can consider content, if you have existing content then you need to decide if it is focussed on your objectives. Creating relevant content is vital but can often be overlooked! This is probably the single most important consideration when looking to start or improve an online presence.

Other suggestions for requirements:

An area clients can download pdf versions of brochures and newsletters?
Did you know? page: facts about demolition, asbestos and removal for example, to encourage clients and new prospects to use the site for resource purposes? an interesting/fun facts page?
Blog/facebook page: facebook is a way to set up a blog type page, facebook has grown very quickly via word of mouth and virally. Many businesses are setting up information type pages informing people of the services they offer and what they are currently doing, from offering students work placements to staff fun days and charity events. This not only helps promote the company on-line and raises on-line awareness, but also gives people an insight into the business, without ‘hard sell’ promotion.
Considerations – Target audience?
The target audience is business people from the Private and Public sectors.
Mix of time-pressured and relaxed visitors, although professionals the need for content rich site is required.
The target audience impacts everything from the look and feel through to the information architecture and even tone of voice. Every choice you make needs to be made with consideration to the type of person using the site.
Consider the look and feel that potential customers might expect.
